Deborah Thibodeau started The Simply Organized Bride.com in 2003 to provide engaged couples who are planning their own wedding with an affordable option to benefit from the assistance of a wedding planner, without actually hiring one. "The Simply Organized Bride" wedding planning guide is designed to work with the resource listings on her website to assist engaged couples with the challenges of planning and organizing their dream wedding experience. Here is her story:
I was born in London, England and moved to Canada when I was 8 years old. I worked for 20 years as a legal assistant in Vancouver, British Columbia. When my husband and I became engaged, we were living in North Vancouver, which is about 1-1/2 hours northwest of Bellingham, Washington. We decided we wanted to get married in the U.S. and live here after our marriage and therefore, our entire wedding was planned long distance from North Vancouver. We made appointments by telephone and then drove down to Bellingham once a week to meet with wedding vendors. Planning a long distance wedding is certainly a challenging experience!
As with most brides, when I started planning our wedding I had no idea how much work was involved and no experience in planning such a large event. I had trouble preparing a wedding budget because I had no idea how much wedding services or items cost. The wedding check lists I downloaded from the Internet were vague and incomplete. The wedding day timelines I came across only dealt with the wedding reception. I was extremely frustrated with the whole thing!
Fortunately, I enjoy organizing and I successfully pulled our wedding together. I prepared a wedding vendor contact list, a complete timeline of the wedding day, a photography schedule plus a music schedule and sent them to each of the wedding vendors. They were very impressed by my organization and were amazed that the reception proceeded exactly on time, even though my husband and I were too busy to even look at the timeline the whole day! I based "The Simply Organized Bride" wedding planning guide on the organization worksheets I prepared for my own wedding, my personal experiences as a bride and my career of 20 years as a legal assistant. I have also included wedding planning and organizing tips from assisting my three sisters with their five weddings, as well as my experiences with The Simply Organized Bride.com.
My goal is to help engaged couples by providing a simple, easy to use wedding planning guide at an affordable price, by offering free listings of local wedding resources and a wide selection of online shopping choices, as well as free wedding planning tips and wedding articles to help with their planning.
